Global media organisation is looking for a qualified financial systems expert to join its Shared Services team based in Central London.

The SSC is a growing operation made up of a dynamic group of finance professionals that are seeking to increase the efficiency of accounting services over time and improve the control environment.

From a system perspective, the SSC is supported by firm’s global ERP, Microsoft Dynamics AX, the Group Reporting system, Hyperion, and the Management Information tool, Cognos.


Purpose of the job:

To guide the SSC to better utilize technology to strengthen the efficiency and controls around the finance processes, by utilizing accounting along with systems knowledge and automation, to work closely with finance users to improve best practice in financial report. In addition, the role will drive continuous improvements and enhancements to the finance applications and also lead or participate in new initiatives and drive their implementation to deliver benefits to the SSC.

Reporting to: Director, Financial Operations; Director, Group Reporting

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Review and challenge current processes and information requirements to ensure optimum use is being made of the company’s existing business applications
  • Work closely with the business application teams and finance to ensure that the systems used by the SSC are able to drive the monthly, quarterly and annual reporting cycles
  • Act as the liaison between the business application teams and finance for the continuous improvement program and change projects
  • Ensure that new solutions are clearly documented and that key users are adequately trained
  • Adhere to the SSC change control policy for all application developments and change requests

Business Application

  • Drive the standardisation of the use of Microsoft Dynamics AX (AX) from a finance perspective, as well as driving EU best practice
  • Lead advisor on data for agencies transitioning to the SSC and implementing on to AX. This will be working with the Business Applications Director with the intention of reducing reliance on the US AX team
  • Lead the work on the project management, design and delivery of automation in GL and/or AX
  • Liaise with the local AX team.
  • Troubleshoot known and recurring issues with AX
  • Cognos report development and maintenance across all of the SSC, while acting as a control point for Cognos reports for the agencies serviced by the SSC
  • Provide first line of support for day to day BAU Cognos report issues
  • Working Capital reporting automation, through the Cognos suite, including the standardisation and alignment across the networks
  • Work on projects to cover other in-house systems where necessary


  • Standardisation of the processes on the Management Accountant (GL) team, with full ownership of the Record to Report process
  • Process best practice lead for the SSC’s outsource partner in India, with respect to the GL team
  • Driving automation for the GL team, to reduce/avoid month end bottlenecks
  • Establish and implement best practice for Working Capital Reporting across the SSC
  • Drive the standardisation of the General Journal process in the SSC
  • Hyperion (HFM) realignment for some Network consolidations to utilise CONSO rather than offline methods
  • Further automation of HFM reporting with template uploaders
  • Sbox processes and design for the non-transactional aspects (financial reporting)
  • Leading automation projects on new UK statutory reporting requirements
  • Collaboration with the existing project team working on the Making Tax Digital project and UK Corporation Tax reporting automation


  • Preference for ACA / CIMA / ACCA Qualified (or equivalent), with excellent technical accounting knowledge and experience
  • Prior experience in a Systems Accountant role, or similar, essential
  • Advanced excel skills, experience of an ERP system and Hyperion required. MS Dynamics and / or Cognos experience, desirable, but not essential
  • Good understanding of databases, SQL, data uploads, interfaces with other systems, data extraction and manipulation desirable but not a prerequisite
  • Strong technical and analytical / reconciliation skills, with the ability to interpret and present data clearly
